Mimi Magee

The AIDS Art Gradient:
The Coexistence and Codependence of Activism and Memorialization in AIDS Artwork

Faculty Advisor: Mark Lambert, Teaching Fellow in the Divinity School

Mimi’s thesis covers the history of the AIDS crisis through the often-overlooked role of AIDS artwork, specifically the work of three different artists/artworks including the AIDS Memorial Quilt, the work of the collective Gran Fury and the artist Felix Gonzalez-Torres. She argues for a more complex intersection between "memorializing" and "activist" AIDS art.
